Tonight, we watched the first video session. Priscilla Shirer was engaging and did a great job drawing a picture of the spiritual battle around us in which an invisible enemy works hard – often with success – to make us dissatisfied and disagreeable. Our God is omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient, and eternal, and we know He wins in the end! A common thread that will be emphasized in each session is the need to PRAY! It is how we activate the battle gear God gives us.
Here is some further reading and short exercises to reinforce this week’s learning.
Based on your selection, how would you describe the results of your approach?
Here is some further reading and short exercises to reinforce this week’s learning.
- Write down the name of the most difficult person, most pressing problem, and/or most overwhelming circumstance you are facing in your life right now. You can list several if you would like. In what ways are you “wrestling” with this person and/or these circumstances?
- Read Ephesians 6:12 again. Below the list, write: “Not the real enemy.” Note the four entities Paul lists in this verse as the real enemies.
- Read Paul’s prayers for us and our first century brothers and sisters in Ephesians 1:15-21 and 3:14-19. What jumps out for you as the intentions of Paul’s prayers?
- Read the story of the Syrians trying to attack Elisha and his servant “seeing” the actual army before them in 2 Kings 6:8-23. How would you feel if you were the servant at first (v. 15) then after Elisha’s prayer (v.17)? What is your assessment of Elisha’s handling of the attack and his final solution? When have you befriended an enemy and changed the situation?
- Consider again the specific persons or circumstances you wrote down. Which of the following two choices would best describe your approach to the issue(s) in the last month?
- Proactive, alert, on-guard for the enemy’s strategies.

- Now look at the persons and circumstances with the specific idea of understanding how Satan is personalizing his bait to hook you. How do one or more of these people or situations press a specific “hot button” for you?
